Day 200 !!! - Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

Congratulations!  If you have been reading each day you have read for 200 days.

Read | Day 200!!!! | Sunday | July 19
Isaiah 34:1 - 17
Isaiah 35:1 - 10
Micah 2, 3, 4, 5

Date | Micah - 703 BC.

Background on Micah | Micah was a prophet from Judah, but prophesied to both Samaria and Jerusalem, capital cities of the northern and southern kingdoms. He prophesied before and after the fall of Samaria in 722 BC and into the reign of Judah’s king, Hezekiah. He was a contemporary of Isaiah. Unlike Isaiah, however, Micah was not part of the inner court. More like Amos, Micah was from the village of Moresheth. This may explain Micah’s sensitivity to social injustice.

The seven chapters of this book are a series of prophecies that alternate between judgment and restoration.   More from the Center of Biblical Studies | Click here
Reading | Isaiah - Lord is mad at the nations - just watch the destruction; there is hope for restoration (ed. note: Jesus); Micah - watch out if you are rich; true and false prophets; hope for restoration; judgement against leaders;  watch out for God and righteous judgement; God will reign from his holy mountain; the exile will be over; there will be a rule from Bethlehem (spoilerguess who?); the remnant will be purified.

Collect of the Day: Pentecost, proper 12
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
For Mission
O God, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth, and sent your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you; bring the nations into your fold; pour out your Spirit upon all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
