NASA My Mini-Bible Study for 2019 | Read the Bible in a Year Using The NRSV Daily Bible Today’s Reading 1/1/2019 Day 1 Genesis 1:1 - 3:24 Reflection We begin our reading the Bible in a year at the beginning.  Our reading will take us through about 3 chapters a day, a verse to meditate upon, a reflection from one of the church greats, and a closing prayer. When I study I always have a composition book near me so that I write down what strikes me about the text. Hint: Read in your study bible or the internet on how the Hebrew Bible was formed. Genesis is the first of five books commonly known as the Pentateuch. As you read you will see different stories and ways of describing the situation. Here in the beginning we have two different Creation stories, How humanity fell or sinned, childbirth, and more. The first story of Creation was probably written by what the Priestly writer. He was from Jerusalem and began his ministry in 740 BC, the year of King Uzziah’s death. The bulk of his ministry took place under Ahaz and Hezekiah. For most of the history of Judaism and Christianity, it was assumed that Isaiah wrote all sixty-six chapter of the book named after him. Beginning in the eighteenth century, biblical scholars began to argue, however, that the book shows clear signs of having been written over a longer period of time. Scholars are now nearly in universal agreement that there were three separate authors for the book, known as First, Second, and Third Isaiah.
