Christmas Messages

Image
Monday - Fourth Day of Christmas 28 December 2020 Sometimes on Monday, I will cruise through some churches that have online worship services as part of my morning prayers. I used to attend Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City, Michigan. Fr. Jim Perra gives us an excellent message on the meaning of Christmas ... The message starts with the reading of the Gospel at 14:30 and finishes around 28:20. Secondly, I heard on Christmas Eve morning PDT, His Holiness Pope Francis , and his message for this mass.  "For us ..."  "For us, for me, for you ..." "You are God's" His message begins at 38:57 in Vatican News' English version of his Christmas Eve mass. May these be a blessing to you.

NASA From the prophet Isaiah ... The people who walked in darkness      have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—      on them light has shined. 3  You have multiplied the nation,      you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you      as with joy at the harvest,      as people exult when dividing plunder. 4  For the yoke of their burden,      and the bar across their shoulders,      the rod of their oppressor,      you have broken as on the day of Midian. 5  For all the boots of the tramping warriors      and all the garments rolled in blood      shall be burned as fuel for the fire. 6  For a child has been born for us,      a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders;      and he is named Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,      Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7  His authority shall grow continually,      and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom.      He will establish and uphold it with justice and with ri

It came at a time in my life where I recently retired. This time has given me a lot of time to rest, recreate, think, and pray in the next directions in my life. Like every disciple of Jesus Christ, I ask the question regularly, “What is God calling me to do?” It has been my good fortune and blessing to have been able to teach Christian adults in one form or another the Bible and study it since 1993. I continue with this calling. In 2020, I took a sabbatical from doing a brief daily reflection on the Episcopal Daily Office readings on my blog The Bible in Time: Read the Bible, Pray the Prayers, Hear the Call, Serve the World! Why I Love to Pray!!

https://myquietspaces.org/2016/08/14/asking-strength-god/mature-woman-in-deep-thought-or-prayer-on-front-porch/   [I asked a friend of mine to send me a letter about her ministry.] Why I Love to Pray!! In the 1970’s I was told by my Spiritual Advisor that he thought I was being called to of a life of prayer for others. I told him, “I have no skills for that.” But, I sensed he was right and he reminded me, God often calls people to do things they can’t do, so that they will depend on God. David was a kid;   Moses had a speech impediment;   Jeremiah was a 12-year-old “cry baby”;   Mary was an unwed teenager;   Sarah was too old to have children;   Rahab was a prostitute,   and the (Bible goes) on and on it goes (with examples.) But the joy of praying for others is an incredible joy for me! Because prayer is a relationship with the One who loves us all!! It is NOT an activity; NOT a theology; NOT a technique; NOT a skill. It IS a time spent with the Holy One to pray God’s prayers for

Prayers for the People

https://www.dreamstime.com/photos-images/people-praying-church.html T he prayers of the people  Let us pray for the Church and the world. God of every time and place, your Son Jesus told his disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” Pour your peace, which passes all understanding, upon your servants as we strive to walk in your ways. Do not let our hearts be troubled, nor let us be afraid. We pray for your peace in our hearts, in our homes, in our land. God of Love: make us instruments of your peace. Dios de Amor: haznos instrumentos de tu paz.  During these days of discord and turmoil, teach us to love our enemies, embolden us to stand against hatred and oppression, empower us to diligently work for justice, and make us ambassadors of your love to this broken and hurting world. God of Love: where there is hatred, let us sow love. Dios de Amor: donde haya odio, sembremos amor.  Jesus forgave those who nailed him to the cross and offered forgiveness to the thief who r

Relationship with God

https://www.pinterest.com/flagg0086/a-relationship-with-god/ Bible in Time Based on impressions of the Book of Common Prayer Daily Office Lectionary texts for the day.  Today - Thursday, 17 September 2020 Proper 19 - Year Two Psalm 70 & 71 Job 28:1-28 Acts 16:25-40 John 12:27-36a (Biblegateway.com; NRSVA) Psalm 71 An old person rejoices in the life long presence of God in their life. (the Psalter) Job 21 Job explains to his “friends” that wisdom only comes from God. Acts 16 Paul & Silas are imprisoned, an earthquake comes and opens the jail but they do not escape - the jailer gets to know Jesus; they are release but Paul notes that as Roman citizens they have been falsely imprisoned and they are released to friends.  John 12 Jesus speaks about his death and God chimes in...
