Day 57 - Background on 1 Corinthians

Prayer Suggestion
|

Send your Spirit, Lord, to rally the resolve of the nations of the earth to find pathways to save human lives, protect human rights, and to resolve the hardships of those seeking refuge, asylum, and safety. Hear our prayer for the peoples of Afghanistan. This we pray as followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

Background on 1 Corinthians -

Sources: Introducing the New Testament (buy the book);

Dear Friends in Christ,

The First Letter of Paul to the Church in Corinth (1 Corinthians) is a parish dealing with conflict over Christian lifestyle, leadership, and doctrine.

Paul is in the role of pastor and leader to get the Corinthians back on track to what they should believe. These folks are “young” in faith and need guidance from a more experienced voice. Paul’s teaching spectrum leads from basic moral conduct of the individual to issues living as a faith community.

After the preliminary greetings, Paul goes right to the issues happening in the congregation as Paul has heard reports and give an explanation to:

  • Who do we follow for leadership and guidance? Unity of the Church.

  • Matters of sexual impropriety?

  • Matters of sexual abstinence?

  • Marriage, divorce, and celibacy?

  • Christian worship?

  • The Holy Communion?

  • Spiritual gifts?

  • Ode to Love!

  • The resurrection of Christ and us?

  • Travel plans

  • Final greetings

We will read a chapter a day in prayer and reflection. Invite your friends to join us.

May the Holy Spirit be in your life!

Blessings,

Dave Eitland
