The Third Sunday in Advent

Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the skies rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation may spring up, and let it cause righteousness to sprout up also. Isaiah 45:8, NRSV, EOW 1

Pray this way or this way or this way.

Psalm 63 | Longing for God |
I seek you,
I see your wonders,
My soul is satisfied and clings to you,
You hold me a protect me from evildoers.

Hebrews 12 | Author unknown - great to read and hear as a sermon viewing Jesus as the great high priest - this section contrasts Mt. Sinai and Mt. Zion. |
Therefore we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks to God!

John 3 | Author known as the “beloved” disciple (as we all are) written after the fall of Jerusalem (70 ad/ce) and likely around 90 ad/ce (God only knows) - one can see a more developed belief system than the previous gospels - might have been written to a Greek audience in Ephesus (GOK) - in many spots Jesus identifies himself as divine.|
John the Baptist is baptizing around the Jordan and is asked if he is the Messiah; Not me; he is the best man but not the groom at the wedding of salvation.

Collect of the Day: Advent 3
Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

Canticle 16 The Song of Zechariah
Luke 1:68-79

Benedictus Dominus Deus
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;*
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,*
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old,
that he would save us from our enemies,*
from the hands of all who hate us.
he promised to show mercy to our fathers*
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham,*
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear,*
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,*
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation*
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God*
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,*
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
