John was in prison and sent people to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah;
Jesus answered the ministry he was doing by quoting the prophets;
Jesus told them the greatness of John the Baptist and he was the
Forbearer of the Messiah according to scripture.

who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people
