Coming to one of the great debates in the new Christian Church.

Edwards’ Book Key points -

  • Galatians was written by Paul in Spring, 50 CE/ad.

  • Peter sides with Gentiles as long as the Pharisees are NOT around. Paul calls him out on his hypocrisy.

  • Pharisees come to Antioch Christians, try to discredit Paul, and “convert” these folks to follow the Mosaic traditions (or what the Pharisees believe).

  • Council of Jerusalem where James the brother of Jesus is de facto chairman of the group, have to make a decision on what to require the Gentile Christians. Do they have to follow the old traditions?

  • James rules the Gentiles do NOT have to follow the traditions. These are not required for salvation. Writes a letter to the Galatian churches with his ruling. Paul and Barnabas delivers the letter.

  • Paul and Barnabas separate in their missionary work.

  • Paul and Silas do the 2nd missionary tour.

  • Note they are doing this ministry as two people not just one.
